Community Garden
All are welcome at St. Timothy’s Community Garden. God placed plants on the earth and instructed us to tend the garden. The miracle of life comes alive from the planting of the seed, nurturing the seedling and ultimately reaping the blessing of the harvest.
Our goal is to provide gardening and food opportunities in our local community. The process of growing food in community is both a social and spiritual experience. We tend the garden in the shadow of our church, with God supplying the sun and the rain. The space provides a safe and healthy environment outdoors producing food for our own nourishment and those of others. The physical garden itself is an approximately 9000 square foot flat(not raised beds) garden in which all members participate in the labors and rewards. Shelf stable crops are grown and provided to the Council for Aging, Soup kitchen and local food pantries.
The garden schedule begins with planting spring crops in February and ends at the beginning of January. Seasonal vegetables are planted according to the calendar and weather. Work sessions are scheduled as needed with regular Saturday morning sessions scheduled during the main part of the growing season. These sessions start at 9:00 and usually last until 11:00 depending upon activities. Canning of produce provides another opportunity for participation as produce is preserved in our kitchen for additional outreach opportunities. Organizational meetings are scheduled around potluck meals using seasonal vegetables as we celebrate our blessings to God with one another and strengthen relationships.
No experience is required to participate in the Community Garden and all skill levels suitable from age 3 and up are welcome. Tasks for participants may include planting, weeding and harvesting, kitchen work, or delivery of produce for distribution. If you are interested in participating or learning more, please contact the church office at [email protected]
Genesis 1:29 God said, ‘See, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit; you shall have them for food.
