At St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church, all are welcome at the table of the Lord because God loves you, no exceptions. We strive to be an inclusive community of faith where all perspectives and peoples can come to worship as one. For the past several hundred years, church has been buildings, programs, rules, rites, and rituals. Beautiful and holy things have come from that church model. Opulence, oppression, complacency, and occasional disconnections from the life of Christ have also come from that model. The ministry of Jesus was always about bringing people into the community, not about keeping people out because of gender, sexuality, or something in their past.

A church that is focused on its mission does more than plan wonderful programs, beautiful worship, and quality education. A mission focused church commits to understanding the root causes of suffering in its community and works hard to overcome them through programs that build relationships across societal divides seeking to engage issues that are causing pain or tension. Education series are designed to equip people with the information and tools they need to be able to cast out the demons of poverty, illiteracy, violence, and crime. People attend them because they want, and need, to know what is being taught. Beautiful worship is not planned as much as it is born in response to the need to celebrate the victories of suffering defeated, and cry out in prayer for guidance and help with the problems too difficult to tackle as mere humans.

Church at its best takes seriously the words of God found in the fifth chapter of the prophet Amos: “I hate, I despise your feasts, I take no delight in your solemn assemblies… take away from me the noise of your songs… but let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.”

Yes. Musicians who play instruments are welcome to share their gifts as part of worship, whether regularly or for special services.
Rehearsal schedules vary depending on the group and the season, but most meet regularly during the week and before services. Contact the parish office to learn more about our music ministries, schedules, and how to get involved.
Music ministry is open to anyone who enjoys singing or playing, regardless of experience. You don’t need to have formal training, just a willingness to participate!
We have plenty of parking. For those with mobility issues, the parking lot closest to the White Chapel will be your shortest trip. All three parking lots on our property are up for grabs, so pick the space best for you.
We love children and all of the sounds and distractions they make. We would love to have them join us for worship and have activity bags waiting to help them stay happy. If you need your worship time a bit less interactive, we offer nursery care from birth to four years old and will resume that service on Sept. 12th.
For decades the slogan of the Episcopal church has been All are welcome. No matter what your age, heritage, economic status, gender identity, or sexuality, you are welcome to participate in all aspects of our congregational life at St. Timothy’s.
Not at St. Timothy’s! We have ushers and greeters who will happily assist you as much as you need, as well as many community members who will be happy to serve any guest.
During the service, the bulletin provided will explain specific instructions for each portion, but will also include either multiple options or an exception. For instance, you might be offered to kneel or remain standing during a moment of prayer. People throughout the congregation will be doing either, so you will not be out of place.
Also, let’s be honest, everyone makes mistakes. Even priests will sometimes have a little gaff or snafu during Eucharist, and you know, we all have a nice laugh! So don’t worry about being perfect because we at St. Timothy’s certainly aren’t.
Episcopal churches follow a common order of service as outlined in our Book of Common Prayer. This means if you go to a church in North Carolina, California, or even in South Africa, the service will be relatively similar no matter where you are. This continuation of tradition unites us globally in our devotion and worship of God.
In our typical Sunday service, we at St. Timothy’s follow the Holy Eucharist Rite II (with the occasional variation to keep things interesting!) This includes readings from the New Testament, Old Testament, and Gospel, a sermon, times of prayer and personal confession, as well as sharing the bread and wine of Holy Communion. If you attend our 10:15 Worship, the proceedings will also include traditional and/or praise-style music!
Episcopal is a denomination of the Christian faith rooted in the history of the Anglican church. To put it more simply: when the United States was formed, colonial congregations also had to separate from the Church of England, so The Episcopal Church began!
The word “Episcopal” means a church that’s governed by bishops. Our church leadership on every level is voted into office, including our Presiding Bishop Michael Curry. Churches themselves are democratically governed by a body of parishioners known as a “Vestry”. This style of leadership furthers our aim to be a cooperative community thriving in the light of Christ.
If you want to visit us on site, our Sunday services are currently at 8:00 am and 10:15 am. On site education for all ages will resume on Sept 12th at 9:00am. Virtually, you can join us live for our 10:15 service or catch a recorded version of our service by 12:00pm on Sundays.
